Comments

When visitors leave comments, we collect the data shown in the comment form, and the visitor’s IP address and browser user-agent to help with spam detection.
An anonymized string (hash) of your email may be sent to Gravatar to check if you use it. See Gravatar’s policy: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval, your profile picture is visible next to your comment.

Media

If you upload images, avoid images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS). Visitors can download and extract location data from images on the site.

Cookies

  • If you leave a comment, you can opt in to saving your name, email, and website in cookies for convenience. These last 1 year.
  • Visiting the login page sets a temporary cookie to check if your browser accepts cookies; it has no personal data and is removed when you close the browser.
  • When you log in, we set cookies to save your login details and screen choices. Login cookies last 2 days (or 2 weeks if “Remember Me” is chosen). Screen options cookies last 1 year. Logging out removes login cookies.
  • If you edit or publish an article, an extra cookie will be stored in your browser with the post ID; it expires after 1 day.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, maps). Embedded content from other sites behaves as if you visited that site. Those sites may collect data about you, use cookies, add third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with the embedded content.

Who we share your data with

If you request a password reset, your IP address will be included in the reset email.
Spam protection services (e.g., Akismet or similar) may process comment data to detect spam.

Analytics (if used)

We may use privacy-friendly analytics to understand visit numbers and pages viewed. IPs may be shortened or anonymized. No personal profiles are built. (Remove this section if you use no analytics.)

How long we retain your data

  • Comments: Comments and their metadata are kept indefinitely to recognize and approve follow-ups automatically.
  • Registered users (if any): We store the personal information in user profiles. Users can see, edit, or delete their information at any time (except username). Site administrators can also see and edit that information.

Your rights over your data

If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request an exported file of the personal data we hold about you. You can also request that we erase personal data we hold about you. This does not include data we must keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
